Yaznur Ovganova
(b.1977)
Turkmenistan
Most of my paintings are devoted to Turkmen women. Despite the traditional Muslim view, the Turkmen woman plays an important role in families and society. She raises children and often resolves vital family issues. Even the well-known hero of the Turkmen-Persian wars, Gowshut-Khan, used to say, "I'm king of everyone, but at home I'm a slave."
