Cambodia
(Thoeung Mim Montgomery)

For a Cambodian woman to be considered beautiful or attractive, she must have silky, black hair, red lips, and big twinkling eyes. Her skin should be fair and as smooth as a hard-boiled egg. However, to me, a woman with internal strength, who speaks her mind, and stands up when she sees an injustice is being done, and treats others with respect is the most beautiful of all. My rag doll, which has olive skin and wears a traditional "wedding outfit," embodies the expectations placed upon her by her ancestors and her family because she is a woman. She must not only be aesthetically good to look at but she is expected to be the foundation and strength in the household into which she is married!
